Nokia 808 PureView countdown clock gone erratic; may not launch tomorrow

Just as we were gearing up for the launch of the next 'big thing' from Nokia, i.e. the Nokia 808 PureView we’ve got some inside info that the PureView is not launching tomorrow. After speaking with Nokia’s representatives regarding the phone's apparent debut slated for tomorrow, this is what they had to say “The Nokia 808 PureView is not launching tomorrow Nokia is planning the event in a couple of weeks from now. We shall inform you when it is launching.

So, when is it launching?
So, when is it launching?

With that statement, we could safely assume that the 41 megapixel Symbian powered smartphone isn’t going to make its debut tomorrow. Then what was the reason for Nokia putting up acountdown clock that would have reached '0' tomorrow? However, speaking of the countdown timer itself, today when the countdown was close to reaching its inevitable end, it seems it has become a bit erratic. Today we noticed that the hours section seemed to be randomly spouting numbers. In the hours field, it indicates a 0 and a 5, with the third column of number simply running in succession from 1 to 0, like a microseconds counter. What does this mean? We're unsure. Our assumption is that it's an issue with the coding of the clock where running digits are simply the microseconds misplaced. The timer itself, seems to indicate that it could come to a stop by midnight tonight, however. As far as Nokia's representatives are concerned, they're aware of the situation, but were unable to provide any reason for the issue.

The PureView has been subject to intense speculation mainly regarding its pricing – which was touted to be Rs. 29,999, initially and was dismissed and changed to Rs. 32,000. However according to the page source from the Nokia India store, a price of Rs. 29,999 was apparently indicated and later removed. Today it seems that the net is once again buzzing with the price being back down to Rs. 29,999.

Nokia has not specified the price yet, as of now, we're considering all prices as hearsay. It seems rather strange that there'so much hype building up over a handset who's core feature is a hi-res camera, but running on a Symbian Belle OS. In the specs department, the handset doesn't come up all too high featuring a 1.3 GHz ARM 11 processor with 512 MB of RAM.

Other features include -
  • 4.0-inch AMOLED ClearBlack display with a 360 x 640 pixel resolution
  • 3G, EDGE/GPRS, Wi-Fi
  • GPS with A-GPS support
  • Bluetooth 3.0 with A2DP, USB 2.0
  • 41 megapixel camera with Xenon flash, 1080p@30fps video recording
  • Stereo FM radio with RDS
  • 16GB internal storage memory expandable up to 32GB via microSD card
  • 3.5mm handsfree socket
With a massive 41MP camera
With a massive 41MP camera

Whatever the price may be and whenever it may be launched, we are simply curious to see if this mysterious timer really does count down to midnight tonight and what it brings with it. Hopefully this will not prove to be some elaborate publicity stunt leading up to, if were to speculate, just the pre-order commencement and final pricing in MRP. We'll know soon enough. Stay tuned.
